EXTREME TEETH SENSITIVITY

EMERGENCY DENTIST — FORT LAUDERDALE, FL
VERY SENSITIVE TEETH

Are very sensitive teeth a dental emergency?: Tooth sensitivity can occur for many reasons. Some are more common (having an acidic diet, brushing too hard, using too many whitening products) while others are more severe (cracked or chipped tooth, deep cavity, infection, gum recession caused by gum disease), which is why you should never ignore it if it appears.

How you should handle sensitive teeth: Start by calling our office so we can learn more about your symptoms. That way, we can confirm if you should come in immediately or on the next business day. We can also provide advice over the phone on how to manage your symptoms if you do not visit the same day you call. For example, you should avoid foods or beverages that are very cold, hot, acidic, sweet, or spicy as this can exacerbate your sensitivity.

How we treat tooth sensitivity: Treatment for tooth sensitivity largely depends on the cause. For example, you may only need to make changes to your at-home habits if no underlying problems are present. Alternatively, we may recommend a fluoride varnish, dental filling, root canal therapy, or gum disease treatment.
