LOST FILLING OR CROWN

Is a lost filling or crown a dental emergency?: Dental restorations are not meant to last forever, which means they can eventually break down or fall off completely after enough time. If a filling or crown comes off, it’s not necessarily a dental emergency (with the exception of severe pain). In either case, you should call us to schedule an appointment to prevent future damage to your tooth.

How you should handle a lost filling or crown: Do your best to locate the restoration and bring it with you to our office. Do not try to place a dental filling that has come out onto your tooth. However, dental cement can be used to temporarily reseat a crown.

How we treat lost fillings or crowns: If your restoration is intact, it may be possible to cement it back into place. However, it’s more likely that you’ll need to have it replaced. Dental fillings will always need to be replaced even if they are relatively new, but dental crowns could be salvaged.
