KNOCKED-OUT TOOTH

Is a knocked-out tooth a dental emergency?: If you want to save the tooth you’ll need to act as quickly as possible. The longer the tooth remains outside the mouth, the less likely we’ll be able to save it. Call us and do your best to get to our office within the hour with your tooth.

How you should handle a knocked-out tooth: Do your best to locate the tooth and pick it up by the crown portion only. Do not remove any tissue that’s still attached or touch the root as this can damage the tooth. After gently rinsing it of any dirt or debris (without scrubbing the tooth), you may try to place it back into your open socket to keep it preserved. If the tooth does not remain in place or you are unable to do this, you may keep it submerged in milk, saline solution, saltwater, or an ADA-approved tooth preservation kit.

How we treat knocked-out teeth: Teeth may still be viable in certain cases if it is not too damaged. This means we could reimplant it back into your mouth and allow it to heal. However, if your tooth cannot be saved, you may need to replace it. This could be done with dental bridges or dental implants.
