CRACKED TOOTH

Is a cracked tooth a dental emergency?: Minor damage to teeth is not always urgent, but severe damage needs to be treated as soon as possible. Keep in mind that cracks are not always visible. If you notice tooth sensitivity or pain when biting down, especially immediately following a facial injury, you may have hidden damage.

How you should handle a cracked tooth: Avoid biting down on any hard foods to prevent your tooth from cracking further. Do not touch your tooth with your finger or tongue to prevent further irritation. Take painkillers as needed and use a cold compress to bring down swelling if present.

How we treat cracked teeth: When damage is minimal, a tooth-colored filling made from composite resin can prevent the crack from getting larger as well as restore the overall shape of your tooth. However, more severe damage, may require a dental crown (or extraction if the tooth cannot be saved).
